How much to tip
Customary tipping varies by country and service. In the US, 15–20% is standard for sit-down restaurant service, with 20%+ for excellent service; many other countries tip less or include service automatically. Tip on the pre-tax amount where that is the norm. This calculator lets you pick any percentage so it works wherever you are.

Splitting the bill fairly
For an even split, divide the total (including tip) by the number of people. If diners ordered very differently, an even split may not feel fair — in that case tip proportionally on each person’s share. Rounding the per-person amount up slightly avoids ending up short when everyone pays.
