How to use Libya Income Tax Calculator

This Libya income tax calculator works out the personal income tax that applies to salary for 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Libya uses a simple two-band scale: the first LYD 12,000 a year is taxed at 5% and income above that at 10%. The calculator shows your income tax, your effective rate and your take-home pay in Libyan dinars, and lets you compare any two tax years side by side. A separate jihad (solidarity) levy and social-insurance contributions apply in practice and are documented but not modelled.

  1. Select your tax year (2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026) — the Libyan scale is identical in every year.
  2. Enter your annual gross salary in Libyan dinars (LYD).
  3. Keep the filing status as Individual.
  4. Click Calculate to see your income tax, effective rate and take-home pay.
  5. Turn on the year-comparison view to see two tax years side by side.

How Libya income tax works

Libya taxes salary on a two-band progressive scale. The first LYD 12,000 a year is taxed at 5% and income above that at 10%. Only the part of your salary inside each band is taxed at that band’s rate, so a salary of LYD 24,000 pays 5% on the first LYD 12,000 and 10% on the next LYD 12,000. The scale has been unchanged across 2023–2026, so the calculator returns consistent results for each of those years.

Social insurance and the solidarity levy

In practice the 5%/10% scale is applied to salary after deducting social-insurance contributions, the employee social-solidarity fund contribution and personal exemptions. These are documented here but not applied automatically, so the calculator taxes gross salary and is a slight upper bound. Libya also levies a separate jihad (solidarity) tax on income, which is documented but not modelled here.
