How to use Egypt Income Tax Calculator
This Egypt income tax calculator estimates your personal income tax and 11% employee social insurance based on your annual income and the tax year you select. Choose between 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 — 2026 is the latest year. The 2024-26 years use the higher EGP 40,000 tax-free band and the EGP 20,000 salary tax exemption, while 2023 uses the older EGP 21,000 band (with a 2.5% step) and a EGP 15,000 exemption. The calculator deducts the personal exemption, applies the Egyptian Tax Authority brackets, and shows your effective rate, marginal rate, a band-by-band breakdown and your estimated take-home pay in Egyptian pounds.
- Select your tax year (2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026) from the dropdown.
- Enter your annual gross income in Egyptian pounds (salary before tax).
- Keep the filing status as Single — Egypt taxes individuals.
- Click Calculate to see your income tax, 11% social insurance, effective rate and marginal rate.
- Review the bracket-by-bracket breakdown and your estimated take-home pay.

How Egyptian tax brackets work
Egypt uses a progressive bracket system applied to your income after an annual salary tax exemption (EGP 20,000 from 2024). Each bracket taxes only the income within its range, not your whole income. For example, on EGP 100,000 in 2024 you subtract the EGP 20,000 exemption to get EGP 80,000 taxable: nothing on the first EGP 40,000, 10% on the next EGP 15,000 (EGP 1,500), 15% on the next EGP 15,000 (EGP 2,250) and 20% on the remaining EGP 10,000 (EGP 2,000) — EGP 5,750 of income tax, an effective rate of about 5.75% versus a 20% marginal rate.
| Net Income Range (EGP) | Tax Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – 40,000 | 0% | Tax-free band |
| 40,000 – 55,000 | 10% | |
| 55,000 – 70,000 | 15% | |
| 70,000 – 200,000 | 20% | |
| 200,000 – 400,000 | 22.5% | |
| 400,000 – 1,200,000 | 25% | |
| Above 1,200,000 | 27.5% | Top rate |
The EGP 20,000 personal exemption
Before the brackets apply, residents and non-residents are entitled to an annual salary tax exemption — EGP 20,000 from 2024 (it was EGP 15,000 in 2023). This calculator subtracts the exemption from your gross income to find taxable income, then applies the brackets. Combined with the EGP 40,000 tax-free first band, this means roughly the first EGP 60,000 of gross salary carries no income tax in 2024-25.
Employee social insurance (11%)
On top of income tax, employees in Egypt pay 11% of the social insurance salary toward social insurance, capped at a maximum insurance wage that rises 15% every January. For 2024 the maximum is EGP 12,600/month (EGP 151,200/year) and for 2025 it is EGP 14,500/month (EGP 174,000/year). This tool applies a flat 11% of gross up to that annual ceiling; the minimum-wage floor and the exact basic/variable salary split are not modelled. The employer separately pays 18.75%.
Effective versus marginal tax rate
Your effective tax rate is your total income tax divided by total income — your true average. Your marginal rate is the rate on your next pound, set by the highest bracket you reach. On EGP 100,000 in 2024 your marginal rate is 20%, but because of the EGP 20,000 exemption and the EGP 40,000 tax-free band your effective rate is only about 5.75%. Note that Egypt also applies a bracket-stacking rule that reduces the lower-band benefit for high earners; this calculator uses straightforward progressive brackets and does not model that phase-out.
