How to use Bahrain Income Tax Calculator

This Bahrain income tax calculator confirms that Bahrain levies no personal income tax on the salaries or wages of individuals, for 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. The 0% regime is structural, not an annual figure, so whatever salary you enter the income tax is zero and an expatriate keeps effectively 100% of gross pay. Bahraini and GCC national employees contribute the full Social Insurance Organisation (SIO) employee share of about 8% (roughly 7% pension plus 1% unemployment); expatriate workers pay only the 1% unemployment-insurance share. The calculator shows your income tax (zero), your SIO position and your take-home pay in Bahraini dinars. Bahrain does apply a 10% VAT and a Domestic Minimum Top-up Tax on large multinationals, but neither touches an individual’s salary.

  1. Select your tax year (2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026) — Bahrain’s 0% regime is identical in every year.
  2. Enter your annual gross salary in Bahraini dinars (BHD).
  3. Keep the filing status as Individual — Bahrain does not tax personal income.
  4. Click Calculate to confirm zero income tax and see your take-home pay.
  5. Review the note on SIO social insurance if you are a Bahraini or GCC national.

Why Bahrain has no personal income tax

Bahrain does not impose any personal income tax on the salaries or wages of individuals, and it never has. Public spending is funded largely by oil revenue, so there is no payroll income tax to withhold. As a result, for the default expatriate case your take-home pay equals your gross pay: enter BHD 30,000 and your income tax is BHD 0. This is a structural feature of Bahraini law rather than an annual rate, which is why the calculator returns the same zero result for 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026.

SIO social insurance and VAT

Bahraini and GCC national employees contribute to the Social Insurance Organisation (SIO): the employee share is about 8% of insurable earnings (roughly 7% pension plus 1% unemployment) and the employer adds more. Expatriate workers pay only the 1% unemployment-insurance share and their end-of-service indemnity is funded by the employer. Separately, Bahrain applies a 10% VAT (raised from 5% in January 2022) and a 15% Domestic Minimum Top-up Tax on large multinational groups — neither of which taxes an individual’s employment income.
