How to use Poland Income Tax Calculator
This Poland income tax calculator estimates your personal income tax (PIT) under the progressive scale (skala podatkowa) based on your annual income and the tax year you select. Choose between 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 — the scale has been stable across all four years after the 2022 Polski Ład reform: a PLN 30,000 tax-free amount (kwota wolna), 12% on income up to PLN 120,000 and 32% above. The calculator shows your effective rate, marginal rate and a full bracket breakdown, plus your estimated take-home after ZUS social security and the NFZ health contribution.
- Select your tax year (2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026) from the dropdown.
- Enter your annual gross income in złoty (salary before tax).
- Keep the filing status as Individual — Poland taxes individuals on the scale.
- Click Calculate to see your PIT, effective rate and marginal rate.
- Review the bracket-by-bracket breakdown and your estimated take-home pay.

How the Polish tax scale works
Poland uses a progressive scale (skala podatkowa). The first PLN 30,000 is the tax-free amount (kwota wolna), income from PLN 30,000 to PLN 120,000 is taxed at 12%, and income above PLN 120,000 is taxed at 32%. Only the income within each band is taxed at that band’s rate. Equivalently, the law states 12% of income minus a PLN 3,600 tax-reducing amount up to PLN 120,000, then PLN 10,800 + 32% of the excess — both forms give the same result.
| Annual income (PLN) | Tax rate | Tax on this band |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – 30,000 | 0% | Nil (kwota wolna, tax-free amount) |
| 30,000 – 120,000 | 12% | 12% of income over 30,000 (PLN 3,600 reducing amount) |
| 120,001+ | 32% | PLN 10,800 + 32% of the excess over 120,000 |
ZUS social security and the NFZ health contribution
On top of income tax, an employee pays ZUS social security of 13.71% of gross (pension 9.76%, disability 1.5%, sickness 2.45%) and a 9% NFZ health contribution. The health contribution is charged on gross minus social security, which works out to about 7.77% of gross — and since the 2022 reform it is no longer deductible from income tax. This calculator subtracts both from your take-home; it applies ZUS uncapped, although pension and disability are actually capped at 30× the average wage each year.
Effective versus marginal tax rate
Your effective tax rate is your total PIT divided by total income — your true average. Your marginal rate is the rate on your next złoty, set by the highest band you reach. On PLN 60,000 your marginal rate is 12% but your effective PIT rate is only 6% because of the PLN 30,000 tax-free amount. Even at PLN 200,000, where the marginal rate is 32%, the effective PIT rate is about 18.2%. Knowing the difference helps with decisions about bonuses and overtime.
No regional income tax in Poland
Unlike the United States, Poland has no regional, provincial or municipal personal income tax. All PIT is national and collected by Krajowa Administracja Skarbowa (KAS). Your national PIT plus ZUS and the NFZ health contribution is the full picture for an employee on an employment contract (umowa o pracę), which is why this calculator has no region selector.
