How to use Morocco Income Tax Calculator

This Morocco income tax calculator estimates your salary income tax (IR — Impôt sur le Revenu) on the progressive scale (barème de l’IR) based on your annual income and the tax year you select. Choose between 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. The Loi de Finances 2025 reform widened the bands — raising the tax-exempt threshold from MAD 30,000 to MAD 40,000 and cutting the top rate from 38% to 37% — so 2023 and 2024 use the old scale while 2025 and 2026 use the reformed one. The calculator applies the 20% professional deduction (capped at MAD 30,000), then shows your effective rate, marginal rate and a full bracket breakdown, plus your take-home after employee CNSS and AMO contributions.

  1. Select your tax year (2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026) from the dropdown.
  2. Enter your annual gross salary in Moroccan dirhams (MAD).
  3. Keep the filing status as Individual — Morocco assesses IR per person.
  4. Click Calculate to see your IR, effective rate and marginal rate.
  5. Review the bracket-by-bracket breakdown and your take-home after CNSS and AMO.

How the Moroccan IR scale works

Morocco taxes salary on a progressive scale (barème de l’IR): only the income within each band is taxed at that band’s rate. This calculator first subtracts the 20% professional deduction (frais professionnels) at its MAD 30,000 cap, then applies the brackets to the rest. For example, on a MAD 150,000 salary in 2025 your taxable base is MAD 120,000: 0% on the first MAD 40,000, 10% on the next MAD 20,000 (MAD 2,000), 20% on the next MAD 20,000 (MAD 4,000), 30% on the next MAD 20,000 (MAD 6,000) and 34% on the final MAD 20,000 (MAD 6,800), totalling MAD 18,800 — an effective rate near 12.5%, well below the 34% marginal rate.

What the 2025 reform changed

The Loi de Finances 2025, effective 1 January 2025, reformed the salary scale to ease the burden on the middle class. It raised the tax-exempt threshold from MAD 30,000 to MAD 40,000, widened every other band, and cut the top marginal rate from 38% to 37%. Because the bands are wider, tax falls at almost every income level: on a MAD 150,000 salary the IR drops from about MAD 23,600 under the 2024 scale to MAD 18,800 under the 2025 scale — a saving of MAD 4,800. Use the year selector to switch between the pre-reform (2023/2024) and reformed (2025/2026) scales and see the difference for your own salary.

The professional deduction and family charges

Salaried taxpayers in Morocco deduct professional expenses (frais professionnels) of 20% of gross salary, capped at MAD 30,000 a year, before the brackets apply. This calculator models the deduction at its MAD 30,000 cap, which is exact for salaries of MAD 150,000 or more (where 20% reaches the cap) and slightly overstates the deduction — so understates tax — for lower salaries. On top of this, Morocco grants a family deduction (charges de famille) of MAD 360 per dependent, up to six dependents (MAD 2,160), which reduces the computed tax; this is documented here but not computed, so factor it in separately if you support a spouse or children.

CNSS, AMO and your take-home pay

On top of income tax, a Moroccan employee pays two compulsory contributions: CNSS social benefits at 4.48% of gross, capped at the MAD 6,000/month ceiling (a MAD 72,000 annual base), and AMO health insurance at 2.26% with no ceiling — roughly 6.74% combined up to the cap, then 2.26% above it. Family allocations (6.40%) and the professional training tax (1.6%) are employer charges and are not withheld from you. This calculator subtracts CNSS and AMO in your take-home figure; in law these contributions are also deductible from the IR base, which this tool shows separately rather than netting, so treat the result as an estimate.

Effective versus marginal tax rate

Your effective tax rate is your total IR divided by total income — your true average. Your marginal rate is the rate on your next dirham, set by the highest band you reach. On a MAD 150,000 salary in 2025 your marginal rate is 34% but your effective IR rate is only about 12.5%, because the MAD 40,000 exempt band, the MAD 30,000 professional deduction and the lower 10/20/30% bands all apply first. Even at MAD 300,000, where the marginal rate is 37%, the effective IR rate is around 24.2%. Knowing the difference helps when weighing a bonus, overtime or a pay rise.
