How to use Iraq Income Tax Calculator

This Iraq income tax calculator works out the personal income tax on private-sector employment income for 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Iraq applies a progressive scale of 3%, 5%, 10% and 15% to taxable income, which is your salary less a personal allowance. A single person receives an allowance of IQD 2,500,000 a year. The calculator applies that allowance, shows your income tax, effective rate and take-home pay in Iraqi dinar, and lets you compare any two tax years side by side. Government salaries are exempt and are not modelled.

  1. Select your tax year (2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026) — the Iraq scale is identical in every year.
  2. Enter your annual gross salary in Iraqi dinar (IQD).
  3. Keep the filing status as Individual — the single personal allowance is applied automatically.
  4. Click Calculate to see your income tax, effective rate and take-home pay.
  5. Turn on the year-comparison view to see two tax years side by side.

How Iraq income tax works

Iraq taxes private-sector employment income on a progressive scale, but first deducts a personal allowance. A single person’s allowance is IQD 2,500,000 a year, so the brackets apply to your salary less that amount. On the taxable balance the first IQD 250,000 is taxed at 3%, the next IQD 250,000 at 5%, the next IQD 500,000 at 10% and anything above IQD 1,000,000 at 15%. Because most salaries land in the top band after the allowance, the effective rate approaches but stays below 15%. The scale and allowance have been stable across 2023–2026.

Exemptions, allowances and social security

Salaries from the government, public institutions and local authorities are fully exempt from income tax, so this calculator models private-sector pay. Married individuals receive a larger allowance (IQD 4,500,000), with extra child and age allowances on top; this tool applies the single-person allowance, so reduce your taxable income further if those apply. Employees also contribute about 5% to social security, which is documented but not deducted here, so take-home is shown after income tax only.
