Retirement Calculator
See if you're on track to retire. Calculate projected savings, monthly retirement income, and how long your money will last — with inflation adjustment.
How to use Retirement Calculator
This retirement calculator projects whether your savings and ongoing contributions will fund the retirement you want. It grows your current nest egg and contributions to your retirement age, then estimates how long the balance lasts given your spending and an assumed withdrawal or return rate. Use it to find the savings gap early — when you still have time to close it — and to test how retiring later or saving more changes the outcome.
- Enter your current age and target retirement age.
- Add your current retirement savings balance.
- Set your monthly or annual contribution.
- Provide an expected return before and (optionally) after retirement.
- Review the projected balance at retirement and how long it lasts.

The two phases: accumulation and drawdown
Retirement planning has an accumulation phase, where contributions compound until you stop working, and a drawdown phase, where you withdraw to cover expenses while the remaining balance keeps earning. The size of the gap between the two depends heavily on your retirement age: each extra working year adds contributions and growth while removing a year of withdrawals.
The 4% rule and safe withdrawal rates
A common rule of thumb is the "4% rule": withdrawing about 4% of your starting balance each year (adjusted for inflation) historically lasted ~30 years. It is a guideline, not a guarantee — sequence-of-returns risk, longevity and market conditions all matter. Use a conservative withdrawal rate and revisit the plan regularly.
| Nest egg | 4% / yr | 3.5% / yr |
|---|---|---|
| $500,000 | $20,000 | $17,500 |
| $1,000,000 | $40,000 | $35,000 |
| $1,500,000 | $60,000 | $52,500 |
