How to use UAE Income Tax Calculator

This UAE income tax calculator answers the most-searched question first: the United Arab Emirates has no personal income tax. Whether you work in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or anywhere in the Emirates, your salary and wages are taxed at 0% — so this calculator shows zero income tax at every income level and, for expatriate workers, 100% take-home pay. Choose 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026; the answer is the same for all four years. Below we also explain the 9% Corporate Tax (which applies to business profits, not salaries) and the 5% VAT, plus the GPSSA pension that applies only to UAE/GCC nationals.

  1. Select your year (2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026) — the UAE result is identical for all years.
  2. Enter your annual gross income in dirhams (AED).
  3. Keep the filing status as Individual — the UAE taxes individuals at 0%.
  4. Click Calculate to confirm your income tax is 0 and your effective rate is 0%.
  5. Review the result: as an expatriate, your take-home pay equals your gross salary.

Why there is no income tax in the UAE

The United Arab Emirates does not levy any personal income tax on the salaries or wages of individuals. There is no federal income tax and no emirate-level income tax in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or any of the seven emirates, and there is no PAYE-style withholding — salaries are paid gross. This is a long-standing policy that remains in force for 2023, 2024 and 2025, which is why this calculator returns 0 tax for any income and shows expatriates keeping 100% of their pay.

Corporate Tax (9%) applies to businesses, not salaries

A federal Corporate Tax of 9% took effect for financial years starting on or after 1 June 2023. It is charged on business and commercial profits above AED 375,000 (0% below that), and it applies to companies and certain business activities — not to an individual employee’s salary or wages. Many people confuse this with an income tax, but employment income remains untaxed. This calculator therefore does not apply any tax to your salary.

VAT (5%) is a consumption tax, not an income tax

Since 1 January 2018 the UAE has applied a 5% Value Added Tax (VAT) to most goods and services. VAT is collected at the point of sale and affects what you spend, not what you earn — it is not deducted from your salary and is not a personal income tax. It is included here only to explain the full UAE tax picture; it does not change your take-home pay calculation.

GPSSA pension — UAE and GCC nationals only

The one mandatory payroll deduction in the UAE is the GPSSA pension contribution, and it applies only to UAE and GCC national employees. The employee share is 5% of the contribution-calculation salary (the employer adds 12.5% plus a 2.5% government subsidy in the private sector). Expatriate workers — the large majority of the UAE workforce — do not contribute to GPSSA and have no income tax, so their take-home equals gross. This calculator defaults to the expatriate case; a UAE/GCC national would subtract the 5% employee share.
