How to use Madagascar Income Tax Calculator

This Madagascar income tax calculator works out the salary income tax (IRSA) on employment income for 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Madagascar uses a progressive scale: on a monthly basis the first MGA 350,000 is tax-free, then 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% bands apply. This calculator uses the annual equivalent of that scale, so you enter your annual gross salary. It shows your income tax, effective rate and take-home pay in ariary, and lets you compare any two tax years side by side. A minimum tax of MGA 3,000 a month is documented but not applied automatically.

  1. Select your tax year (2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026) — the IRSA scale is identical in every year.
  2. Enter your annual gross salary in ariary (MGA).
  3. Keep the filing status as Individual.
  4. Click Calculate to see your income tax, effective rate and take-home pay.
  5. Turn on the year-comparison view to see two tax years side by side.

How Madagascar IRSA works

Madagascar taxes employment income (IRSA) on a five-band progressive scale assessed monthly. The first MGA 350,000 a month is taxed at 0%, then 5% up to MGA 400,000, 10% up to MGA 500,000, 15% up to MGA 600,000 and 20% above that. This calculator multiplies each monthly threshold by twelve and applies the scale to your annual salary, so only the part of your income inside each band is taxed at that band’s rate. The scale has been unchanged across 2023–2026.

Minimum tax and social security

A statutory minimum IRSA of MGA 3,000 a month (MGA 36,000 a year) applies regardless of income; it is documented here but not applied automatically, so very low salaries may show zero tax in the calculator. Employees also contribute to CNaPS (social security) and a health organisation such as OSTIE; these are documented separately and not deducted here, so take-home is shown after income tax only.
