Why Vanuatu has no personal income tax

Vanuatu levies no personal income tax, no payroll tax and no capital gains tax on individuals; the government is funded by VAT, import duties and fees. Income tax is modelled as a single 0% bracket spanning all income, identical across 2023 to 2026, so whatever salary you enter the income tax is zero.

Provident fund, not income tax

In practice employees contribute 4% of wages to the Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF), but this is a personal saving, not an income tax; it is documented but not deducted. The vatu is shown without decimals. Consult the Department of Customs and Inland Revenue for confirmation.
