How to use Cyprus Income Tax Calculator

This Cyprus income tax calculator estimates your personal income tax on the progressive scale based on your income and the tax year you select (2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026 — 2026 is the latest). Cyprus taxes only the income within each band at that band’s rate, so the first slice is always tax-free. The enacted 2026 reform raises the tax-free threshold from €19,500 to €22,000 and widens every band: 0% to €22,000, 20% to €32,000, 25% to €42,000, 30% to €72,000 and 35% above. The calculator also models the 8.8% employee Social Insurance contribution and the 2.65% General Healthcare System (GHS/GeSY) contribution, then shows your effective rate, marginal rate, a full bracket breakdown and your take-home in euros.

  1. Select your tax year (2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026) from the dropdown — 2026 applies the reformed bands.
  2. Enter your annual taxable (chargeable) income in euros.
  3. Keep the filing status as Individual — Cyprus assesses income tax per person.
  4. Click Calculate to see your income tax, effective rate and marginal rate.
  5. Review the bracket breakdown and your take-home after Social Insurance and GHS.

How the Cyprus tax scale works

Cyprus taxes chargeable income on a progressive scale, and only the income within each band is taxed at that band’s rate. From 2026 the first €22,000 is tax-free, then 20% applies to €32,000, 25% to €42,000, 30% to €72,000 and 35% above. For example, on €30,000 in 2026 only the €8,000 above the €22,000 threshold is taxed, at 20% — that is €1,600, an effective rate of about 5.3%, far below the 20% marginal rate.

Social Insurance and the General Healthcare System

On top of income tax, Cyprus employees pay Social Insurance of 8.8% of gross pay, capped at maximum insurable earnings of €68,904 a year from 2026, plus a General Healthcare System (GHS/GeSY) contribution of 2.65% capped at €180,000 of income. The employer pays its own matching shares. The calculator subtracts both employee contributions in your take-home figure. Note that the amount you enter is treated as taxable income, whereas the legal base is gross minus deductible contributions and allowances, so the estimate can slightly overstate tax.

Effective versus marginal tax rate

Your effective tax rate is your total income tax divided by total income — your true average. Your marginal rate is the rate on your next euro, set by the highest band you reach. On €30,000 in 2026 your marginal rate is 20% but your effective rate is only about 5.3%, because the €22,000 tax-free band applies first. Even on €60,000, where the marginal rate is 30%, the effective rate is about 16.5%.
