Multi-Section Weighted Grade Calculator
How to use Test Grade / Percentage Calculator
The test grade calculator converts a raw score (questions correct out of total questions) into a percentage and letter grade. It also supports a weighted multi-section mode where different sections of a test — reading, writing, maths — carry different point weights, giving a more accurate overall grade for mixed-format assessments.
- Enter the number of questions correct and total questions, or switch to weighted mode.
- In weighted mode, add each section with earned points, total points and weight percentage.
- Your percentage and letter grade update instantly.
- Copy the result or use the grade breakdown to understand where points were lost.

Letter grade scale
The standard US scale: A+ (97–100), A (93–96), A− (90–92), B+ (87–89), B (83–86), B− (80–82), C+ (77–79), C (73–76), C− (70–72), D+ (67–69), D (63–66), D− (60–62), F (<60). Some institutions use a +-minus scale; others assign A ≥ 90 and B ≥ 80. The scale used in this tool follows the most common US college convention.
| Grade | Percentage | GPA points | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ | 97–100% | 4.0 | Rarely given; not always on 4.0 scale |
| A | 93–96% | 4.0 | Excellent performance |
| B+ | 87–89% | 3.3 | Above average |
| B | 83–86% | 3.0 | Good, meets all expectations |
| C+ | 77–79% | 2.3 | Satisfactory |
| C | 73–76% | 2.0 | Meets minimum satisfactory standard |
| D | 60–69% | 1.0 | Passing but marginal |
| F | < 60% | 0.0 | Failing; no credit |
Weighted multi-section tests
Standardised tests often weight reading, writing and maths sections differently. For a test where reading is 40%, writing 30% and maths 30%, the overall percentage is: (reading_pct × 0.4) + (writing_pct × 0.3) + (maths_pct × 0.3). The weighted mode in this calculator handles any combination of sections and weights, normalising if weights do not sum to 100%.
