How to use Cumulative GPA Calculator

The cumulative GPA calculator combines your current semester grades with your historical GPA and credits to compute your running overall GPA. It also includes a "What grade do I need?" planner: enter your target GPA and future credits planned to see the average GPA you must earn to reach your goal. Supports both 4.0 and 10.0 grading scales.

  1. Add courses for the current semester (name, grade, credits).
  2. Optionally enter your previous cumulative GPA and credits completed.
  3. Click Calculate GPA to see semester GPA, cumulative GPA and letter equivalent.
  4. Use the goal planner: enter a target GPA and future credits to find the needed average.

Your data never leaves your device — 100% private processing.

Combining semester and cumulative GPA

Cumulative GPA = (previous quality points + current quality points) ÷ (previous credits + current credits). This means a single poor semester has less impact as total credits grow. Conversely, recovering from a low GPA early in a degree is far easier than late — because fewer future credits are available to dilute the low early grades.

Using the goal planner strategically

To raise a GPA of 2.8 to 3.0 with 60 credits completed over the next 30 credits, the required GPA is: (3.0 × 90 − 2.8 × 60) / 30 = (270 − 168) / 30 = 3.4. This models the mathematical recovery path. If the required GPA exceeds the scale maximum (4.0), the target is mathematically impossible in the specified number of credits.
