How to use Grade Calculator

The grade calculator computes your weighted course grade from multiple assessment categories — homework, quizzes, midterms, finals — each with its own score and weight. It also predicts what score you need on remaining work to achieve a target letter grade. Simply add categories, enter earned and total points plus percentage weight, and the tool instantly converts to a percentage and letter grade.

  1. Add each grading category (e.g. Homework, Midterm, Final).
  2. Enter your earned points, total points and weight (%) for each category.
  3. Click Calculate Grade.
  4. Review your weighted average, letter grade and predictions for remaining assignments.

Your data never leaves your device — 100% private processing.

Weighted vs unweighted grading

An unweighted average treats all assignments equally. A weighted average assigns different proportions to different assessment types — typically exams count more than homework. The formula is: grade = Σ(percentage_i × weight_i) / Σ(weight_i). If weights don't sum to 100%, the calculator normalises them automatically to produce a valid percentage.

Predicting what you need on remaining work

Once you know your current weighted grade and the weight of remaining assignments, you can solve for the minimum needed score: (target − current_weight × current_pct) / remaining_weight. This is useful before high-stakes assessments to know how much effort is required versus the marginal gain available. If remaining assignments total 20% of the grade, even a perfect score raises the final by at most 20 points.
