How to use OCR — Image to Text Converter

This OCR tool extracts editable, searchable text from images and scanned PDFs using optical character recognition. Upload a photo of a document, a screenshot, a receipt, or a scanned page and the engine returns the words inside it as plain text you can copy, edit, or paste anywhere. Unlike the in-browser quick scanner, this version runs a trained server-side OCR model (OCR.Space engine 2) for noticeably higher accuracy on real-world photos, multi-column layouts, and lower-contrast scans. Your file is read in the browser and sent securely for processing; the recognized text is returned to you and is not stored.

How to get the most accurate OCR results

OCR accuracy is driven almost entirely by input quality. Scans at around 300 DPI, photographed straight-on with even lighting, and saved as a sharp PNG or high-quality JPG give the engine the cleanest letterforms to work with. Avoid shadows, glare, motion blur, and heavy JPEG compression, which smear character edges. Plain printed text in a standard typeface is recognized far more reliably than handwriting, decorative fonts, or text laid over a busy background. Cropping tightly to the text and increasing contrast before uploading both measurably improve results.

Client-side scanner vs server-side OCR

ToolsHub offers two ways to get text from an image. The in-browser Image-to-Text tool runs entirely on your device, which is instant and fully private but uses a lighter model that struggles with photos and complex layouts. This OCR tool sends your image to a server-side engine that is trained on far more data, so it reads noisy phone photos, multi-column pages, and faint scans much more accurately. The trade-off is that the file leaves your browser for processing, so choose the in-browser tool when privacy is paramount and this one when accuracy matters most.

Rotating a scanned page so its text lines are horizontal, which improves recognition accuracy.
