How to use Tally Counter

A tally counter is a simple, reliable way to count anything by tapping a button — people entering a venue, reps in a workout, stock on a shelf, laps on a track, or birds at a feeder. This online version replaces the mechanical clicker with large tap targets, multiple independent named counters, custom step sizes, and automatic saving in your browser. There is nothing to install and no sign-up, and because every count is stored locally your data never leaves your device.

  1. Tap the large plus button to add one step to the count.
  2. Rename a counter by editing its label to describe what you are counting.
  3. Adjust the step size if you want each tap to count in batches.
  4. Add more counters to track several things at the same time.
  5. Use minus to correct an overcount or reset to start the counter again.

Your data never leaves your device — 100% private processing.

When a tally counter beats counting in your head

Mental counting breaks down as soon as you are interrupted, distracted, or counting into the hundreds. A tally counter offloads the number to a reliable store so you can keep your attention on the thing you are counting rather than on remembering the running total. It is especially valuable when counting in real time — a steady stream of people through a door, or fast reps in a set — where a moment of doubt would otherwise force you to start over.

ScenarioWhy a counter helps
Event door countHands-free total even with constant arrivals
Workout repsNo lost count if you pause between reps
StocktakeBatch counting with a custom step size
Field surveysMultiple counters for different categories

Using multiple counters effectively

When you need to count several categories at once — such as different vehicle types in a traffic survey or different species in a wildlife count — give each counter a clear, short label and keep the most frequent one in the most reachable position. The combined total updates automatically, so you can read both the per-category figures and the grand total without doing any mental arithmetic. Because each counter stores its own step size, you can even mix single counting and batch counting in the same session.
