Understanding green, yellow, and grey
Wordle gives three kinds of feedback. A green tile means the letter is correct and in the right position, so it locks that slot. A yellow tile means the letter is in the word but somewhere else, so it must appear but not where you tried it. A grey tile means the letter is not in the word at all and can be excluded. The helper turns these three signals into a filter: green letters fix positions, yellow letters are required, and grey letters are forbidden. Feeding in every clue you have from earlier guesses produces the tightest possible shortlist.
