How to use Magic: The Gathering Card Lookup

This free Magic: The Gathering card lookup lets you search any card by name and instantly see its mana cost, type line, full oracle text, power and toughness, set, rarity, official art, and latest USD price. Players use it to settle rules questions, build and tune decks, check prices before trading, and find the exact wording of a card mid-game without flipping through binders. Results are fetched live from Scryfall, the comprehensive open card database that powers many MTG tools.

  1. Type all or part of a card name into the search box (for example, "lightning bolt").
  2. Press Look Up (or hit Enter) to query Scryfall using fuzzy name matching.
  3. Read the mana cost, type line, and full oracle text shown beside the card art.
  4. Check the set, rarity, power/toughness, and USD price in the details grid.
  5. Refine your search with a more distinctive word if the wrong card appears.

Your query is sent to Scryfallto fetch results. We don't store it.

How to read a Magic card

Every Magic: The Gathering card packs a lot of information into a small frame. The mana cost in the top-right corner shows what you must pay to cast it, using colored pips and a generic number. The type line in the middle states whether the card is a creature, instant, sorcery, enchantment, artifact, planeswalker, or land, plus any subtypes. The text box holds the oracle text — the authoritative, up-to-date rules wording maintained by Wizards of the Coast — and, for creatures, the power and toughness appear in the bottom-right as "power/toughness". Rarity is shown by the set symbol color, and flavor text in italics adds story without affecting gameplay.

Why oracle text and prices can differ from your copy

The oracle text shown here is the current, official wording, which may differ from the text printed on an older copy of the same card. Wizards of the Coast periodically updates rules text for clarity and to match modern templating, so always trust the oracle text for tournament rulings rather than the flavorful original print. Prices are aggregated USD values reported by Scryfall and reflect a recent snapshot of the most common printing, not a live market quote for a specific edition, foil treatment, or condition. For accurate buying or selling decisions, cross-check a dedicated marketplace. This lookup is ideal for quick reference, deckbuilding, and resolving in-game questions on the spot.
