How to use Social Media Image Resizer

Resize images to exact pixel dimensions for any social media platform — preset sizes for Instagram posts (1080×1080), Instagram Stories (1080×1920), Twitter/X header (1500×500), LinkedIn banner (1584×396), Facebook cover (820×312), YouTube channel art (2560×1440), and more. All processing happens in-browser; no image data is sent to any server.

  1. Upload your image by clicking or dragging it to the tool.
  2. Select a platform preset or enter custom width and height dimensions.
  3. Choose crop mode: center crop, fit with padding, or stretch-to-fill.
  4. Adjust focal point if using center crop to keep the important area visible.
  5. Download the resized image in JPG or PNG format.

Your data never leaves your device — 100% private processing.

Social media image size reference 2024

Each platform has specific optimal image dimensions for different placements. Using the wrong size leads to compression artifacts, unwanted cropping, or letterboxing. Instagram feed posts display at 1080px wide, with square (1:1), portrait (4:5), and landscape (1.91:1) supported. Profile pictures display as circles; upload at least 180×180 and center the key element. Twitter/X profile pictures should be at least 400×400; the header is 1500×500. LinkedIn profile photos display at 400×400; the background banner at 1584×396. YouTube thumbnails should be 1280×720 (16:9).

Crop modes and focal point selection

When resizing an image to a different aspect ratio, you must choose how to handle the mismatch. Center crop removes edges from all sides to fill the target ratio — best when the subject is centered. Fit with padding scales the image to fit entirely within the target dimensions and adds colored bars (letterbox/pillarbox) to fill gaps — best when you can't lose any part of the image. Stretch-to-fill distorts the image to exactly match dimensions — acceptable only for abstract backgrounds. For portraits, use face-detection focal point to keep the face centered in the crop area.

Glossary

Aspect ratio
The proportional relationship between width and height (e.g., 16:9, 4:5, 1:1).
Letterboxing
Horizontal black/white bars added above and below an image when its aspect ratio is wider than the display area.
Pillarboxing
Vertical bars added to the sides of an image when it's narrower than the display area.
Focal point
The most important part of an image (often a face or product) that should remain visible after cropping.
