How PDF page reordering works
A PDF's page tree is a hierarchical structure — a catalog that contains a Pages node whose Kids array lists the individual page objects in document order. Reordering pages means rebuilding this Kids array in the new sequence. pdf-lib reads the original page objects (with all their content streams, fonts, images, and annotations) and writes a new document whose page tree reflects the updated order. Because each page object is self-contained with its own resources, reordering does not corrupt embedded content or break internal links within the moved pages.
