How to use Running Pace Calculator

The running pace calculator solves for any one of three running variables — pace, distance or finish time — given the other two. It supports kilometres and miles, includes speed conversion, optional calorie estimation and a race split table showing projected finish times at your current pace for five standard race distances: 1 mile, 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon.

  1. Select your unit (km or mi) and calculation mode (Find Pace, Find Distance, or Find Time).
  2. Enter the two known values for your chosen mode.
  3. Optionally enter body weight to estimate calories burned.
  4. Read your result, speed in km/h and mph, and projected race finish times.

Your data never leaves your device — 100% private processing.

Pace, speed and the conversion between them

Pace (minutes per km or mile) and speed (km/h or mph) are reciprocals: speed = 60 ÷ pace_in_minutes, pace_in_minutes = 60 ÷ speed. A 5:00 min/km pace equals exactly 12 km/h. A 6:00 min/km pace equals 10 km/h. Understanding the relationship helps runners set treadmill speeds and interpret race feedback.

Calorie estimation from running pace

Calories burned running depend on body weight and speed. The MET value of running scales roughly with speed: METs ≈ speed_km/h × 0.8 (capped between 6 and 20). Calories = MET × weight_kg × duration_hours. A 70 kg runner at 10 km/h (MET ≈ 8) burns about 280 kcal in 30 minutes. Actual values can vary ±15% based on terrain, fitness and running economy.

Glossary

Half marathon
A race of 21.0975 km (13.1094 miles), half the length of a full marathon.
Marathon
A standard road race of 42.195 km (26.219 miles).
