How to use Ovulation Calculator

The ovulation calculator predicts your fertile window and ovulation day for the next three menstrual cycles based on the first day of your last menstrual period and average cycle length. Ovulation typically occurs 14 days before the next period starts. The fertile window spans 5 days before ovulation through ovulation day itself, since sperm can survive up to 5 days in the reproductive tract.

  1. Enter the first day of your last menstrual period using the date picker.
  2. Adjust your average cycle length (21–35 days) using the slider.
  3. Click Calculate Fertile Window.
  4. Review the ovulation day, fertile window dates and next period estimate for three cycles.
  5. Use the colour-coded calendar to visualise period days, fertile days and ovulation day.

How ovulation timing works

The luteal phase — the time from ovulation to the next period — is relatively constant at about 14 days in most women. Cycle length variation is almost entirely due to differences in follicular phase length (the time from menstruation to ovulation). A 28-day cycle has ovulation on day 14; a 35-day cycle on day 21. This is why tracking cycle length rather than using a fixed day-14 rule gives more accurate predictions.

Limitations and when to seek professional guidance

Cycle length naturally varies month to month by 1–7 days. Stress, illness, travel, hormonal changes and conditions like PCOS can shift ovulation significantly. Calendar methods alone have about 76–88% effectiveness for contraception — far lower than hormonal or barrier methods. For conception assistance or contraception beyond educational purposes, consult a gynaecologist or fertility specialist.
