How to use Audio Silence Remover
The silence remover scans an audio file, finds the quiet gaps, and removes them to produce a tighter recording you can download as a WAV. An adjustable threshold controls how quiet a section must be — and a minimum length keeps it from chopping natural short pauses — so you can strip long stretches of dead air from podcasts, voice memos, lectures, and interviews without hand-editing. Everything runs in your browser using the Web Audio API, so your recording is processed locally and never uploaded.

How automatic silence removal works
The tool decodes your file into raw samples and scans the waveform for runs where the amplitude stays below the threshold you set. To avoid butchering natural speech rhythm, it only treats a quiet run as removable silence once it lasts longer than roughly a third of a second; shorter pauses between words are preserved. It then stitches the remaining loud segments back together end to end and exports them as a single WAV. The result is a recording with the dead air gone but the speech intact, which can dramatically shorten rambling or pause-heavy material.
Choosing the right threshold
The threshold is the balance point between cutting too little and cutting too much. Set it too low and only near-perfect silence is removed, leaving some pauses behind; set it too high and the tool starts treating soft speech, breaths, or quiet music as silence and clips them. The best approach is to start in the middle, listen to the preview, and adjust: if obvious gaps remain, raise it slightly; if words sound chopped or abrupt, lower it. Because processing is instant and local, you can iterate quickly until the recording sounds natural.
Worked examples
Podcast cleanup
Inputs: episode.mp3 · threshold 2%
Result: Tighter WAV, e.g. 18% shorter
Voice memo
Inputs: memo.wav · threshold 3%
Result: Leading/trailing silence removed
