Exchange rates and their sources

Exchange rates fluctuate continuously with market trading. The rates shown here are indicative mid-market rates (the midpoint between buy and sell rates) sourced from open exchange rate APIs. Banks and money transfer services add a spread — typically 0.5% to 3% above mid-market — as their margin. For large transfers, always verify the rate with your provider.

Currency codes (ISO 4217)

Each currency has a standardised 3-letter ISO 4217 code: USD for US Dollars, EUR for Euros, GBP for British Pounds, JPY for Japanese Yen. The first two letters usually represent the country; the third represents the currency name. A few special codes exist: XAU (gold), XDR (IMF special drawing rights) and XBT/BTC (Bitcoin, though not official ISO).
