Date difference applications
Date differences are needed across many contexts: calculating loan terms (days between disbursal and payment), insurance policy durations, employment tenure calculations, project planning (business days remaining), age verification and event anniversary counting. Using calendar arithmetic rather than fixed 30-day months gives accurate results for all these scenarios.
Difference in weeks, months and years
Total days is unambiguous. Converting to months is trickier because months vary in length (28–31 days). The standard approach: count whole months, then remaining days. Years follow the same pattern. For example, from March 1 to November 15 is 8 months and 14 days. Working days (Mon–Fri only) are counted by subtracting weekend days from the total, useful for project timelines and SLA compliance.
| Month | Days | Cumulative (from Jan 1) |
|---|---|---|
| January | 31 | 31 |
| February | 28 / 29 (leap) | 59 / 60 |
| March | 31 | 90 / 91 |
| June | 30 | 181 / 182 |
| September | 30 | 273 / 274 |
| December | 31 | 365 / 366 |
